2009 DSG Bazaar

Over 2700 people attended the 2009 DSG Charity Bazaar, held on 7th November at the IST Secondary School.

Country stalls at the DSG 2009 Bazaarevent raised over 60  million Tsh and all of this has gone to projects in Tanzania which help women, children and those with disabilities.

Twenty-seven embassies and diplomatic missions took part in the Bazaar, selling food, handicrafts and household goods from their home countries. The United Nations Spouses Group organized the ever-popular White Elephant stall with bargain books, clothes and household goods. The European Commission kept kids busy with target football, Hoopla and other games.

Guest of Honour was Happy Sefu, from the Kidzcare Home for Orphans near Bagamoyo, which received funding from DSG this year. In a moving speech, Happy explained how Kidzcare had changed her life. Living in a derelict house after the death of her parents and then her grandmother, Happy was very sick when found by Rebecca Young who introduced her to Kidzcare. Still very small for her 16 years, Happy is much stronger now and is determined to campaign to help others who suffer as she did.

The focal point of the Bazaar was a huge marquee where crowds gathered to watch the 4-hour non-stop programme of music and dance. The Grand Raffle this year was bigger and better than ever, with stunning prizes generously donated by businesses, embassies and individuals. KLM, the main sponsor of the event, provided the Grand Prize of 2 tickets to Amsterdam.

Our sincerest thanks to all our donors and sponsors, to our host, IST, and to everyone who gave  so generously of their time to make the 2009 Bazaar a success.
